Creationism
A theory espoused by religious fundamentalists, it is the idea that God alone created the universe and all life on Earth. Creationists deny the theory of evolution that has been accepted as a fact by scientists around the world. This was a conflict because it argued the theory of evolution, and started a lot of controversey throughout the years. Creationism was a theory that was argued over years and was really argued during the Scopes trial. Christian fundamentalist's supported this idea of creationism because it uphheld their beliefs, and as the theory of evolution was written they were offended by the ideology of it.
This is a video of a women named Wendy Wright who is a creationist being interviewed on her views about the subject
Charles darwin
Charles Darwin is famous for developing the ideas of evolution and natural selection in the 19th century. Although he is generally associated with the creation of the idea, many naturalists before him proposed the theory of evolution. His observations in the Galapagos Islands and developed theories and experiments led him to the publication of his ideas. He was at first mocked for his ideas that humans may have a common ancestor with apes, but later his theories were far more widely accepted across the globe.
It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change. - Charles Darwin

Four main ideas of evolution
-More organisms are produced than can survive because of limited resources.
-Species whose individuals are best adapted survive; others become extinct. -Some variants are better adapted to survive and reproduce under local conditions than others. -Individuals within a population vary in their traits; some of these traits are heritable -- passed on to offspring. |
Evolution challenged
Christian Fundamentalists in the 1920's formed Anti-Evolution groups to bar the teaching of it in schools. The famous Christian Fundamentalist and multiple time runner for President William Jennings Bryan was the face associated with defending Creationism. Some attacks on Darwin such as comics (Left) were used to portray his ideas as irrational and get people to join anti evolutionists. Textbooks containing evolutionary theories were banned in some states. The Scopes Trial is a famous example of Evolution vs. Creationism.
